| Dog intake begins when the animals arrive at the sanctuary. Intake is completed when the animals have been examined, vaccinated, treated for any immediate problems and housed in runs. The intake process also includes the recording of data about the animal, both on paper and in an electronic database. |

In the video above, two Best Friends staff work with Dr. Charlie, a volunteer veterinarian, to muzzle a frightened dog so that he can be examined for intake. Their gentle approach works wonders with this dog, who is ready to make friends by the end of the process. (Note: this video is silent.) |
